OK...these Lifetime Movie Network Christmas movies are killing me. Christmas Shoes and its sequel, Christmas Blessing, are pure torture!!! A mom, heart disease, cute kid, dancing shoes, heaven, angels, mean old scrooge guy, mean old scrooge guy sees the light, doctor turned mechanic, mechanic turned back to doctor, teacher with liver disease, little boy with a bad heart, little boy donates liver to teacher, teacher lives to love another day...holy crap, batman!!! How much can a girl take??!? I've been bawling like a baby all evening for cryin' out loud!!
Seriously, I might be complaining, but I really do love this stuff. Sappy, maybe, but also an illustration of the very best in people. People who live and love and give selflessly to one another. People who discover that the very best in life can't be wrapped up with a pretty bow on top, but resides in the touch of a loved one, in the gaze of a lover, and in the joy and innocence of a child.
And that the hope of the world is not in money or possessions or gifts or holiday indulgences, but in a child who was born in the lowliest of stables. A child with the heart of a servant who grew up to sacrifice everything because of love.
It occurs to me that one of the greatest gifts we can give this year to those we love is to keep taking care of ourselves. To keep getting healthier each and every day. To stay the course for yourself, yes, but also to dig deep and work hard for those you love. In the end, every single bit of the struggle will be worth it.
1,205 calories today, lots of water, lots of walking, and the Christmas spirit is taking hold!! ;-)

In Hospice, some of my hardest work
is to convince the families that
just because it happened on Lifetime,
it probably won't happen in real life!
